Switzerland is not renowned for its comedy culture, a fact which gave Guy Stevens, founder of the Funny Laundry Comedy Club, the idea to ‘introduce a new form of cultural entertainment to Switzerland’: British comedy. Convergent’s sponsorship has assisted in this project by ensuring the club has financial security. The founder of Convergent, Brendan McGoogan, is a Scot working in Zurich and thus support the comedy club’s efforts to bring the enjoyable, light-hearted entertainment that stand up comedy is to Switzerland.
Notable comedians at the comedy club include award-winning Arthur Smith, who famously refused the Perrier Award for a lifetime of achievement in comedy, Mitch Benn, who frequents the ‘Now Show’ on Radio Four and Shazia Mirza, winner of the Hackney Empire Best New Act award.
